If anything is true about Champaign-Urbana, it is the transient nature of these twin cities. People-wise, the University is a pretty big part of that. Folks come here for a season then leave to pursue other opportunities.
It wasn’t until we sat down to discuss the “things” that left C-U in the past decade that we realized how much this is the case for non-people entities as well. It’s probably a phenomenon that happens in lots of communities this size, but it doesn’t change how startling it is to see how many things are on this list: some that were fleeting, some that were rather established.
You, as readers, helped us come up with several of these, so thank you for that. You’ll notice many, many, many restaurants…that’s just part of the restaurant biz I suppose. We surely have not included everything, but I’m sure you’ll tell us what we missed.
So, without further ado, farewell to the following…
- Champaign County Nursing Home
- Clybourne and Firehaus
- Connections Resale Store
- Cream and Flutter
- Das Café
- El Charro
