The press were invited to Ubben Tuesday to poke microphones at Jereme Richmond. After four years of building expectations, the incoming freshman has big shoes to fill. Fortunately, he has size 16 feet.
Everyone came to see the new kid on the block. But the obvious presence in the gym was the old guys — alums Meacham, McClain, Frazier and Powell.
Trent, who enjoys the glare of bright UV lighting, faced the cameras.
The Reverend Powell, more spiritual, performed a solitary walking tai chi.
Frazier came wearing matching shoes. Nevertheless, he spent most of his energy on coaching.
Sergio got down to some serious coaching, too. He ran Mike Davis through a series of ballhandling drills.
Davis has been toiling at the four spot for three years. His skill set and body type are fit for the wing, especially if he hopes to play for pay.

“Could he play wing in the NBA?” I asked McClain.
“Yes,” said Serge, without blinking, “because he can shoot.”
BILL COLE NOT GOING QUIETLY
So far that’s one freshman phenom and one senior stalwart competing for time at the three spot.
Don’t make plans for the wing just yet.
In the 5-on-5, Bill Cole played smothering defense on Mike Tisdale. Tisdale found himself pushed further from the iron, and adjusted — lofting an easy right hand hook through the net.
Kudos to both of them.
MEYERS IS TALLER THAN TISDALE
From no angle is this fact not visibly obvious.
… even when they’re goofing around.
Evidently, he’s still growing. That’s scary.
