Lola’s Brush is a new paint-party outfit operating out of Champaign. They offer both on-site and in house painting parties with themes such as girls night out, paint-and-sip, couples night, and family nights. The in-house painting parties are hosted in the former Indigo Art Gallery. Mandy Danowitz, owner and operator, recently hosted a Independence Day themed event at Big Grove Tavern and we were there to photograph the fun.
The event took place on Tuesday June 30th and was open to the public of which there were 45 in attendance. The subject of this painting party — fireworks, of course.
Although this was a paint by instruction type of event, Danowitz encourages more creative freedom compared to other local painting parties. She, and her assistant Maggie Kirby, are both elementary art teachers. “We encourage creativity and help painters make their art work unique.” Danowitz says. “Do you want it to be horizontal or vertical? What colors do you want the fireworks to be? More blue and less green? No problem. You can follow along exactly or personalize it as you choose.”
Ticket price included painting supplies and instructions and appetizers provided by Big Grove. Guests were also served an Independance Day themed sparkling drink. All of this eating and drinking took place before the painting started.
How much does it cost to attend an event like this? The answer: About $30. How do you find out about the next show and buying a ticket? Check out their website calendar. It looks like their next event is a wine glass painting party on July 10th. Details from the website below:
