This week on the podcast, Francisco Baires and Megan Flowers from the University YMCA stopped by the studio to give us the details on this semester’s upcoming Friday Forum lecture series. Each semester the lectures and speakers focus on a different topic, and this semester examines the issue of incarceration from a variety of different angles. The topic is especially pertinent considering the ongoing discussion of building a prison in east Urbana and the fact that Illinois is home to several prisons. The conversation touched on just a few of the topics expected throughout the lecture series, including a little history of the lecture series, immigrant detention centers, racial and socioeconomic disparities in prison populations, and more.
