Welcome to part three of the most photogenic places of C-U. In case you missed the others, check out part one and part two. This week, Michael Kehoe and his fellow photographers take us over to the prairie side to explore some beautiful midwestern scenes. Kehoe provides the commentary.
I want to highlight the awesome simplicity of the prairie state that surrounds us for miles and miles. Tim Hagley is someone that captures this beauty extremely well. This is what he had to say about taking photos in Champaign-Urbana:
“I try to capture the essence of what I love about the Midwestern United States. The wide open skies, the minimalist beauty of an unobstructed horizon, and the sense of quiet solitude that can only be found in the rural countryside. In Champaign-Urbana and elsewhere, I try to capture the feeling of the places I love and share that with others.”

As Tim demonstrates incredibly well, there is so much beauty to be found in the open plains of Central Illinois; it’s just a matter of looking in the right place and with an open mind. I think that this is one of the most underappreciated aspects of living in the Midwest because it can be so aesthetically pleasing if you are able to look past it being boring or monotonous.

I hope that it serves as a source of inspiration for those who want to start taking more photographs or for those who may be having a creative lull. One thing I’ve learned from living in Central Illinois is that beauty can be found anywhere; you just have to get out and find it!
