On Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:30 a.m., Sam Smith, engagement director of the Krannert Center, has begun to teach Chinese Kung Fu held in the building’s outdoor amphitheater.
Chinese Kung Fu, a term used in the Western world to refer to martial arts, has been a part of Chinese history since ancient times. Although it is considered a fighting style, Kung Fu advocates virtue and peace, not aggression or violence, overall keeping its original function as a means of self defense.
After 25 years in education, Smith’s mindset is to once again actively get involved with the practice of Kung Fu. To do so, he’s chosen to share his knowledge and talents with the community of Champaign-Urbana, encouraging all ages, shapes and sizes he welcomes those with years of experience to others with none.
Creating a atmosphere of strength, determination, and focus the amphitheater provides a perfect set up for the classes to take place. Practicing Chinese Kung Fu might not be your typical morning workout, but it is definitely worth a try!
No matter what your experience level, wear loose clothing and join Sam Smith on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Krannert’s amphitheater.
