After a virtual gathering in 2020, the latest iteration of the annual Playful by Design Symposium is taking place at CU Community Fab Lab and the brand new Siebel Center for Design. The symposium is supported by an Investment for Growth Grant, awarded to Games @ Illinois: Playful Design for Transformative Education in 2019. In addition, the University recently established a new Game Studies & Design program, an Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Minor housed in the iSchool.
The symposium will take place October 14-16, and features interactive sessions, roundtable discussions, tours of the Fab Lab and Siebel Center, game design challenges, and a keynote address from Jeremy Bernstein, principle writer for Volition. You can find the full schedule of events here. All sessions are free and open to all, and there is no need to register prior to the event.
