Anita Purves Nature Center is collecting hard to recycle items this week

Today is America Recycles Day, and the Urbana Park District and City of Urbana are teaming up to receive and repurpose or recycle items you might have around the house that you can’t just toss in your household recycling.

Throughout the week of November 15-20, during regular business hours, you can drop off the following items at Anita Purves Nature Center:

  • Drink pouches (think Capri-Sun) and straws
  • Pens, pencils, markers, and empty glue stick cartridges
  • CDs/DVDs
  • Compact fluorescent bulbs (in a Ziploc bag)
  • Eyeglasses

You can also bring these items, which are collected year-round at Anita Purves:

  • Batteries (single-use and rechargable)
  • Inkjet cartridges
  • Cell phones
  • Six-pack ring carriers

Items will be sent to organizations and companies that specialize in breaking them down and repurposing them.

If you’d like a fun repurposing activity to do as a family, The Idea Store is providing free activity kits. If you’re interested in picking one up, call 217-384-4062.
