Japan House 20th Anniversary
► Krannert Center for the Performing Arts // $10-$65 // 2 p.m.
Krannert isn’t the only one celebrating a milestone — Japan Houses’ 20th anniversary celebration is this weekend. There’s this performance happening in the Tryon Festival Theatre on Saturday afternoon ahead of Sunday’s Masturi Festival at Japan House. This performance begins with Kosho Fukushima’s Shinto blessing, remarks and special guests, a tea ceremony, taiko drumming, contemporary tsugaru-jamisen performances, and much more.

Shonen Knife, the 5678s
► Japan House // free // 5:30 p.m.
Here’s one you truly should check out this weekend: Shonen Knife and the 5678s at Matsuri Festival at Japan House. These two bands are legendary in their own ways, and this is a rare performance, let alone one you can see for free. These two acts have quite the cult following and have been around since the early 1980s. What a better way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Japan House than to see these two bands on Sunday night.
