Jazz Walk

Though this was scheduled for last weekend originally, Urbana Park District’s Jazz Walk was rescheduled for this weekend as to avoid the rain. Jazz Walk features a variety of jazz artists in Meadowbrook Park, all for free, so take a stroll and check this out.

SmokePurpp, The Harley Boys, Gatson

► The Canopy Club // $25 advance/$30 door // 7 p.m.

Chicago Miami-native rapper SmokePurpp headlines this early show at Canopy (below you’ll see the late option). You can read more about the rapper here via Pigeons and Planes. The rapper has been on the rise since last year’s Deadstar was released.

We the Animals, Tigerbeat, Bashful Youngens, Dearie

Though the show doesn’t start until 7:30 p.m., the Loose Cobra’s outdoor show will probably have the bar set up by this time on Saturday night in Tolono. A handful of local bands are performing in what is the final show of the week of shows celebrating the Cobra’s birthday.

Soul artist Zeshan B heads back to Champaign-Urbana after visiting just last year at PYGMALION, and this time around he hits Urbana at Krannert Center’s Stage 5. This is a part of KCPA’s Global Transfer Afterglow series, and is free of charge. An awesome show after the Hot Sardines finish up for you to check out.

The annual fundraiser for WEFT — WEFT Fest — is happening on Sunday at Seven Saints, right next door to where WEFT exists. The community radio station has a few bands lined up to celebrate 37 years on the airwaves, and you can get food and drink directly from Seven Saints while you’re there.
