Mark Deutsch (Gateways to World Music performance and lecture series) 

► University of Illinois School of Music // free // 7:30 p.m.

Mark Deutsch, an artist with a diverse background, presents a concert featuring his original instrument, the Bazantar. Deutsch’s Bazantar music combines musical elements from the West and East. This free concert at the Music Building Auditorium will be an unique experience. 

Loud Luxury

Primitive Lights, Novagolde, Devin Frank 

► The Brass Rail // free // 9 p.m.

This show features two local bands, Primitive Lights and Devin Frank, and Wisconsin’s Novagolde. The show is being billed as an opportunity to “taste the different colors of the psychedelic rainbow,” so this show sounds like a great way to get you over the midweek slump.

The Bridge #2.2 (Sudden Sound Concert Series)

This free show will be one for Jazz lovers and New Music lovers alike. The Bridge #2.2 quartet brings together to talents of French guitarist Raymond Boni, London-based double-bassist Paul Rogers, Japanese composer and saxophonist Mai Sugimoto, and Illinois native Anton Hatwich for a truly global cosmopolitan musical event.

I covered Vestiges’ World Tour EP in October, so I am excited to for this show. It’s going to be an eclectic night, with music from post-punk to power pop; surf jazz to baroque folk. NM Garcia goes on first followed by Water Between Continents, so if you’re experimentally inclined, get to the show early.

Harvest Sons will be playing from their new album, Flat Black Sessions, Volume 2, which they released back in September.
