According to the Facilities and Services website, the new Campus Landscape Master Plan “aims to provide detailed objectives to create a campus landscape that fosters an appreciation for the Illinois natural and cultural heritage and protects historic university landscapes.”
The plan is a result of a process that began in February 2022, with public forums, interviews with stakeholders, and surveys. It identifies 11 campus districts, each with specific improvement goals. You can see the prototypes for each of these areas of campus in the document.
The rendering shown above is an “eco-corridor” planned for the Military Axis district of campus, which is the grassy stretch east of the new Siebel Design Center, that stretches alongside the Art + Design Building, Education Building, and Temple Hoyne Buell Hall.
