Mottainai, the annual Japan House bazaar, returns to Japan House on December 9th and 10th and 11th. Last year they held it on a bit of a smaller scale, as a part of Allerton’s Holiday Showcase, and of course 2020 was a no go. Now, the shopping event is back in it’s original home.
Mottainai means “what a waste!” and is upholds the practices of reduce, reuse, recycle and respect. The folks at Japan House gather an eclectic assortment of Asian-inspired items including “pottery, kimono and yukata, origami crafts, handmade items, scarves, scrolls, posters, scrolls, books, prints, chado equipment, jewelry, furniture and more.”
This is always one of my favorite holiday shopping experiences. It’s a great way to find some really unique gifts for your loved ones, or even a special items for yourself. Most items are very affordable.
The bazaar will be open on December 9th 10th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and December 10th 11th from 12 to 3 p.m. If you attend on Saturday, you can also enjoy some tasty treats from the Matcha Cafe. The event is free to attend, but you are encouraged to register beforehand as space is limited.
