The Apollo 11 moon landing happened 50 years ago this summer, and even those of us who weren’t around for that momentous occasion are at least somewhat familar with the iconic images, and sounds, and stories surrounding it.
On June 27th, the planetarium is partnering with WILL and the Illinois Department of Astronomy to host a sneak peek of the upcoming PBS series “Chasing the Moon.” The documentary “reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. The series recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation, political calculation, media spectacle, visionary impulses, and personal drama.”
The full series will be broadcast on WILL-TV in three, two hour parts beginning on July 8th, but this event will allow you to view part of the series ahead of time alongside other space enthusiasts and local astronomers. There will also be a Q&A following the viewing.
This event is free, and open to all ages. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the film begins at 7 p.m.
