There is enough irony here for a reasonably good two-act play.
State universities (notoriously left-leaning?) “augment” the system of salaried/tenured/benefited employees with a batch of one-year-contract (expendable) employees.
These new hires are willing to take jobs which would otherwise be filled by salaried/tenured/benefited persons.
i.e. they are scabs.
Then, a union finds and recruits these new hires, thus estopping any previously recognized unions from complaining about scabism.
The new union files a grievance on the grounds that the temporary replacement workers aren’t being permanently placed?
