In the Champaign-Urbana metro region in Illinois, the focus of the transit district is on getting people out of their cars by offering a full palette of options. Since 2001, the district has been working to transform the region into a multimodal community, where residents can comfortably walk, bike, or bus to local destinations and leave their cars at home. The effort has helped the region land a position among Smarter Cities’ top 15 smarter metro regions in the country for transportation.
