Jolette Law’s Illini women’s basketball team looked pretty pathetic coming down the stretch of this year’s Big Ten season. They went 0 for its last 12 and landed in the cellar of the conference, and with an #11 seed in this weekend’s tournament.
Well, seems like none of the players got the memo on their being an easy out, because as of this writing, they’ve taken down #6 seed Indiana, and now, #3 seed Michigan. This is the first time in the history of the tournament that an #11 seed has made it to the semifinals.
If this story seems familiar, that’s because it is: in 1999, you might remember the cellar dweller Illini men’s team make a run to the tournament championship only to lose to soon to be National Champions, Michigan State, led by Mateen Cleeves.
The women face Penn State tomorrow. The game will air on the Big Ten Network and on 1400 WDWS.
