I’m a die hard Beck fan, over on my CD shelf I have over 10 different albums, plus EPs and all sort of other random goodness. I used to say he could fart on a snare drum and I’d buy it. But I have to admit, he’s been in a bit of a decline over the last few records. But there’s a turnaround, possibly…
Beck’s website, www.beck.com has been steadily unveiling some pretty awesome stuff over the last month. He’s doing a cover to cover remake of The Velvet Undergound and Nico, and doing it basically live. He’s also doing interviews with people like Tom Waits. He’s been putting up new videos as well.
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on here, but if I remember correctly his last album was the end of his contract obligation with DGC, and the album left many die hards feeling flat. I’m thinking he’s following in line here with Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead and possibly steering clear of the major record label B.S. that we’ve all grown to love. Look at the numbers on that last NIN record if you want to see proof that major labels have no place for big bands anymore.
