Monolith Reception | Indi Go Art Gallery | Friday | 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. | Free
Coming off of a month-long showing at Cafe Kopi, local artist Michael Curtin will be hanging his bad-ass paintings at Indi Go Gallery this week in preparation for his opening reception this coming Friday. Michael’s art will be accompanied by free booze and musical accompaniment provided by Water Between Continents. The exhibition begins on Tuesday the 14th, the booze floweth this Friday between 6 and 9.
From Indi Go’s press release:
‘Monolith’ is a series of recent ink on paper paintings by Michael Curtin. Primarily depicting geometrical towers and their female tenants, the artist uses scale and color in an attempt to mythologize the characters and locations that occupy his art. Varying between small, intimate portraits and soaring landscapes, the work explores the themes of isolation, over consumption, and our cultures broadening reliance on technological solutions to these issues.
Stylistically influenced by sequential art and OMNI magazine, the show borrows from the artist’s experiences in both 2D computer-based illustration, and the virtual, math-driven environments of 3D game development. Operating in the physical world without an ‘undo’ command, he strives to build narrative through each line, drip, and tear that marks the page.
Reception: Friday, June 17th, 6-9pm with special performance by Water Between Continents
Exhibition: Tuesday June 14th – Tuesday June 21st, open daily Noon to 7pm
