Just minutes ago, this citizen journalist noticed workers painting long white lines along State Street—meaning that C-U drivers have a new place to get mad at bikers for obeying the laws. It’s all part of Champaign’s plan to make the city more bike friendly. There will be corresponding lanes on Randolph as well. Apparently, sections of the State Street bike lane will only be “sharrows” because the road is too narrow in parts. More info here.
Cheers to the city a new and efficient way for me to travel home from downtown! Tax dollars well spent. (I wonder how long it will take them to build the toll booths for those bikers riding to and from Savoy.)
