Champaign-Urbana’s longest-running weekly Irish music session will resume on Wednesday evenings beginning August 8, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Dublin O’Neil’s in Champaign. Jake Schumacher, who leads the session, said
We want to thank Dublin O’Neil’s for making the Wednesday evening session a welcome addition to their music line-up. The genial and cozy Irish pub atmosphere should provide a great listening experience for old and new fans of Irish traditional music. And we want to thank Bentley’s pub for their support of the weekly session over the last decade.
The session focuses on the dance music of Ireland — jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes, polkas, marches, and more — played on authentic Irish instruments including fiddle, button accordion, concertina, piano, pipes, and tenor banjo. Throughout the evening occasional songs are sung and stories are told as well. Musicians with some experience in playing Irish music are welcome, and those with an interest in learning to play Irish music are encouraged to come and listen, as well as all who enjoy Irish and Irish-American culture, food, and drink.
