This week, INNER VOICES Social Issues Theatre program will present Universe City, a new performance piece examining the diversity of human interaction — its beauty, its complications, and what is required of us in a diverse world. Immediately following the performance, there will be an interactive dialogue facilitated by students studying Arts-Based Civic Dialogue. This is a FREE production sponsored by the Counseling Center and the Department of Theatre.
I can speak with firsthand knowledge about the ingenuity and passion that goes into Inner Voices shows, and I can guarantee audience members a thought–provoking experience. (Full disclosure: I used to work for the program as an instructor.) Program Coordinator Latrelle Bright and her revolving roster of student performers build a new theatre piece from scratch each semester and utilize their storytelling skills to enrich their community, on campus and beyond. Stick around for the facilitated dialogue; Inner Voices shows frequently provoke strong emotions and always lend themselves to conversation.
Performances of Universe City will be held on the U of I campus at The Armory Free Theatre, 505 E. Armory, Room 160.
