The Virginia Theatre’s fall 2013 season opens Friday, August 23, with the historic theatre’s first annual Opening Night Celebration. Join us at the Virginia for an evening of old-time family entertainment, featuring an outdoor ice-cream social, performances by Tony Clements, members of the University of Illinois marching band, the Chorale, plus an appearance by UI Head Football Coach Tim Beckman, and more. The evening culminates in a world premiere performance of the new one-act stage play, The Galloping Ghost: Red Grange Visits the Virginia, by Champaign native Charles Finn.
Following the recent completion of the Virginia Theatre’s 5.5 million dollar, year-long renovation, the Champaign Park District Board of Commissioners and staff are excited to reopen the Virginia’s fully-restored auditorium with a fresh, active schedule of live events and movies. The Virginia Theatre’s fall 2013 season is a diverse blend of concerts, stage plays, classic films, and some unexpected treats, with special guests like Chicago Bears co-owner Pat McCaskey and 2012 Theatre Organist of the Year Mark Herman sharing the spotlight with the likes of Robert Cray, A Far Cry, SHREK The Musical, Sing-a-Long Grease and many others.
The News-Gazette Film Series also returns to the Virginia this fall with a selection of beloved titles — kicking off with a “Reader’s Choice” contest to choose the first movie to be shown at the theatre on August 31!
