Governor Pat Quinn signs marriage equality bill

Since 1974, activists have been rallying for the equal rights marriage. On Wednesday, Governor Pat Quinn officially signed the gay marriage bill into law that made Illinois the 16th state to allow same-sex marriage. The law changed the definition of marriage from a woman and a man to between two people. The bill started to gain momentum in 2005 when Blagojevich had signed a gay rights measure. Quinn had signed the bill with 100 pens that were given out to all those who helped make the bill possible. The bill will take effect in on Sunday, June 1st, 2014. The ceremonies might be moved up if a measure is backed by Democrat Senator Don Harmon.
