Common Ground leads successful Gifford Tornado recovery fundraiser

From the press release:

COMMON GROUND LEADS SUCCESSFUL GIFFORD TORNADO RECOVERY FUNDRAISER

Urbana, IL — Every day Common Ground customers participate in the Round Up for Good program. Customers can “round up” their change at the register to donate to a different not-for-profit organization each month. The organizations are nominated and chosen by their owners.

After the devastating storms last month, Common Ground staff decided to do an emergency Round Up to assist the citizens of Gifford in their recovery efforts. Urbana’s Crisis Nursery was the store’s scheduled December Round up for Good organization, and they agreed to donate their first week to the Gifford, IL, Tornado Recovery. Common Ground decided to match all donations up to $500.

From Monday, December 2 through Sunday, December 8, Common Ground customers donated a total of $805 by “rounding up” their change at the registers. Multiple customers donated beyond rounding up their bill to the nearest dollar by donating up to $50 flat. Many customers said they were looking for a way to help out but didn’t know where or how to donate, so they were grateful for the opportunity.

Common Ground will be sending $1,305 to the Gifford, IL, Tornado Recovery. This total includes the food co-op’s matching amount of $500.

“We are so grateful and proud to have customers and owners who show such amazing generosity through Rounding Up. It’s inspiring to know what a difference we can make when we all work together,” said Owner Services Coordinator, Lara Orr.
