Another Wendy’s opened today at 10 a.m. at the Illini Union Food Court.
The students voted for Portillo’s but Portillo’s reportedly had no interest in expanding south from its Chicagoland locations.
Talks with Culver’s also fell through, and the Illini Union sought out a contract with Wendy’s which set up shop in the university within this year.
The location is where McDonald’s once was and more recently, Chick-fil-A.
Wendy’s recently opened on Sixth near Green Street in 2013, and the Illini Union location will be the second Wendy’s within the campus.
