For nearly four years, Jason Brown and I have been offering up an audio offshoot of Smile Politely via radio on WEFT 90.1 FM and via podcast on iTunes, this site and probably Zunecast. But time constraints, old age, apathy, new Robocop movies — basically the usual mumbo jumbo has made it a good time for us to move on. We’ve had a lot of fun and have appreciated everyone’s support (thanks Eric). The show has evolved over time, and we’re incredibly proud to have brought perspectives on all kinds of things and talked to people who have done, and continue to do, AMAZING things for this community. This show has always been about shining a light on people, events and institutions that make C-U pretty neat, and we’re very excited to say that it will continue to do so.
Over the next few weeks, the show will be transitioning to your new hosts Rebecah Pulsifer (SP’s News & Culture Editor) and Sean Purvines. They are younger and better looking than Jason and I. They also seem very bright and are incredibly on top of things like booking guests, asking interesting/thoughtful questions, and navigating community radio. You can bet the show is about to become a heck of a lot better. So please, please, please tune in and listen. I promise you’ll learn some great stuff about the place where you live.
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll learn a little something about yourself.
Smile Politely Radio airs each Friday evening at 5:30 on WEFT 90.1 FM in Champaign, and is available as a podcast the following week.
