Decorated Air Force colonel and NASA astranaut, Michael S. Hopkins, will be giving the Commemncement address for the class of 2014 on Saturday, May 17th at Memorial Stadium. Hopkins graduated from the university’s aerospace engineering program in 1991. “I wouldn’t be sitting here, just having returned from space, without the University of Illinois” he has said. Hopkins was also a walk on player for the football team while he was a student. When he graduated he continued his education at Stanford to earn his masters before he applied to the space program.
