Urbana Free Poetry will be held this Sunday, May 11th, at 2 p.m. at the Urbana Free Library.
Three local poets will read six sets in one hour—half original work, half poems from books that you might not know are in the library’s collection. If you like what you hear, all the library books that these poets read from will be available for checkout.
The featured poets:
Matthew Murrey has been writing poetry for many years, has published a number of poems in magazines and journals, and has won an NEA fellowship. He is the school librarian at Urbana High School and has two grown sons living in the Pacific Northwest.
Ethan Madarieta writes, reads, studies, and occasionally publishes fiction, poetry, criticism, theory, philosophy, and manifestos. He is licensed in the state of Illinois to cut, color, and style fiction, poetry, criticism, theory, philosophy, manifestos, and hair, and is currently living in Urbana with his life partner, perpetually writing “a novel,” and studying to be a doctor of philosophy.
William Gillespie has published nine and 5/6ths books of fiction and poetry under six different names, most recently Keyhole Factory; while procrastinating on writing, he hosts the radio show Rock Geek F.M. with Cristy Scoggins and runs the independent publishing house Spineless Books.
