From a press release:
The YWCA at the University of Illinois will host its 10th Annual Race Against Racism 5K Run/Walk on Friday, October 3rd at the University of Illinois’s Arboretum.
Registration for the race begins at 5 p.m. with the race starting at 6pm. Advanced registration is available here. The advance registration fee is $25, and race-day registration is $35. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Prizes will be given out to the overall male and female runner as well as individual awards for different age groups. All proceeds will support the YWCA’s educational programming on social justice as well as the Women in Leadership program that promotes the leadership potential of University of Illinois women.
The YWCA at the University of Illinois is the oldest continuously operating student-focused association in the USA. It is one of only six remaining “student” YWCAs in the country. Because of its unique position, it is committed to cultivating the precepts of racial justice in the students who participate in its programming while mentoring and assisting in the development of their leadership abilities. The YWCA intends to influence young women to continue to strive for women’s empowerment and the elimination of racism through advocacy and activism as well as by encouraging them to become leaders and role models in their communities.
