Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners will be hosting a special Day of Service community event in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
When: Monday January 19th, 2015 from 1-3 p.m.
Where: The Books to Prisoners workroom, located in the basement of the IMC Building (also known as the Urbana Post Office building) (202 S. Broadway, Urbana)
What: The event will include volunteering in our workroom as well as a special MLK Day presentation. You can expect to read letters from inmates in Illinois prisons, search our book collection to find books meeting their request, and then prepare the books for shipment.
Why: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President’s national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. Books to Prisoners is proud to offer a community volunteer session on MLK Day to participate in this effort. Join us!!
