David Foster Wallace ranks fairly high on the local-celebrity scale, being born to U of I professor parents and returning to Bloomington-Normal for some of his adult life. A portion of that local life is depicted in the recent film The End of the Tour, a chronicle of the five days DFW spent talking to a Rolling Stone reporter, David Lipsky. Part road trip flick, part biopic, and part super-awkward proto-bromance, the film adapted from Lipsky’s memoir offers an affecting experience for the audience.
Tomorrow night, 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, Illinois Theatre is offering a free screening of the film at the Spurlock Museum. Following the film will be a Q&A with the screenwriter, Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Marguiles. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 217-300-4367.
