C-U resident James Kilgore is featured in 13th, a new documentary by acclaimed director Ava DuVernay.
Kilgore is an activist, University lecturer, and the author of several books, including Understanding Mass Incarceration: A People’s Guide to the New Civil Rights Struggle of Our Time.
DuVernay’s film Selma was the first by a black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award. 13th traces the history of mass incarceration in the U.S.
13th, which is currently available on Netflix, has already received critical recognition from the New York Film Festival and the Critics Choice for Documentary.
