The Champaign County Historical Museum has announced two historical tours taking place on August 19th: The Downtown Champaign History Walk and Historic Churches Tours. The tours step off from West Side Park at the museum’s famous popcorn wagon (this is also the weekend of the Taste of Champaign). You can find the links for tickets on their event page. Here are the details.
Downtown Tour, 12:30-2 or 3:30-5
Join the Champaign County History Museum for a 1.5 hour long history walk through the streets of Downtown Champaign. The tour will highlight the architecture, the people and the events that helped shape the City of Champaign. Your tours will be led by T.J. Blakeman, a fifteen year verteran of the Champaign Planning and Development Department, local historian and President of the Champaign County History Museum. Tours will depart from our museum booth in West Side Park (Just look for our popcorn wagon) and proceed down Church Street, Main Street, Chestnut Street, University Avenue, Neil Street and Park Street.
Churches tour, 11-12:30 or 2-3:30:
Join the Champaign County History Museum for a 1.5 hour long historical tour of three beautiful and historic Downtown Champaign Churches. Tours will depart from our booth in West Side Park (Just look for our popcorn wagon) and proceed to the Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, then on to the First United Methodist Church and finally Champaign’s oldest church, the First Presbyterian Church. We’ll spend 20 minutes at each church exploring the interior architecture and learning about the churches history from their staff and parishioners.
