Walk to School Day events create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment, and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
The event is being organized by Cynthia Hoyle of the C-U Safe Routes to School Project, the Cities of Champaign and Urbana, the Urbana and Champaign school districts, and the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD). The event is part of a larger Safe Routes to School Program operated through C-U SRTS Project in cooperation with the school districts and cities.
