The History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library’s Oct. 11 Open House will be made very special by the presence of famed letterpress printer Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr. This event, from 4-6 p.m. in Rooms 220 and 246 in the Main Library, is free and open to the public.
From 4-5 p.m., the esteemed artisan will discuss his work and answer audience questions in Room 220 of the Main Library; a special exhibit of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library’s Kennedy holdings will be on view in the space for viewers’ enjoyment.
Then, from 5-6 p.m., guests will move down the hall to Room 246 to make a keepsake print (while materials last); enjoy toothsome refreshments in the genial atmosphere of the History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library; and purchase, if they wish, their very own Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr. prints. The sale of Kennedy prints will be on a cash-and-carry basis.
A former AT&T systems analyst, Kennedy is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s top-ranked Printmaking MFA program. He is the subject of the documentary Proceed and Be Bold!
The Main Library is located at 1408 W. Gregory Drive in Urbana, IL.
