Smile Politely

RIP John Coleman, founder of The Weather Channel, U of I and WCIA alum

John Coleman passed away last night at the age of 83. Coleman founded The Weather Channel, and after seeing this float around Facebook — he was a University of Illinois alum, and his first job as a weather expert was at WCIA.

In 1953, he was a student at the U of I and working at WCIA — though you should check out this clip from 1958:

Pretty neat clip, and if you watch towards the end, Coleman places magnets of the temperatures on the map — one even falling to the ground after not sticking on the board. Oh, how technology has changed. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw that.
