MTD is launching a mobile ticketing app next week

Beginning April 2nd, bus passengers will be able to load single ride, monthly, annual, and Saturday/Sunday passes on an app called Token Transit. Here’s the info from their website:

The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) will launch mobile ticketing capabilities with Token Transit on April 2, 2018. The Token Transit app, available on iOS and Android, will allow passengers to purchase one trip, or a student, monthly, annual or Saturday/Sunday pass, with a credit card on the app (or with cash at MTD’s Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign). Fares can be used immediately or stored on the Token Transit app for future trips and activation.

“This is an obvious next step for us,” said MTD Managing Director Karl Gnadt. “We feed our meters on an app, make dinner reservations on an app, why not pay for bus fares on an app? We’re excited to partner with Token Transit to make mobile fares available to the Champaign, Urbana, and Savoy communities.”

Passengers wishing to use their mobile device as a bus pass can download the Token Transit app in advance of April 2, and complete their setup of the app on Monday, April 2, by selecting “Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District” from the drop-down menu. After choosing a pass and purchasing it, that pass will be stored in the app. Before boarding a bus, passengers can tap any pass stored in their Token Transit account to activate it.

More information on using Token Transit on MTD can be found here or call 217.384.8188 with questions.
