C-U March for Our Lives Town Hall happening Thursday

On March 24th, students and community member took part in the C-U version of March for Our Lives, part of the national movement led by students from Parkland, Florida. After the march, those students encouraged marchers to set up town halls and and invite their congresspeople to attend while in recess.

The group UIUC Students Against Gun Violence organized one for Thursday, April 5th, with the intention of inviting our IL-13 Representative Rodney Davis, who we know is a fan of town halls (insert eye roll). Despite an invitation from the group, and a hand delivered petition with 400 signatures, apparently he is claiming to have not received an invite.

Betsy Dirksen Londrigan, Rodney’s opponent, also received an invitation and will attend the town hall. The event will be at the Champaign Public Library, and it begins at 6:30 p.m. Here are the details from the Facebook event:

The survivors of the Parkland, FL school shooting who organized the March for Our Lives on March 24 have called for town halls on gun violence prevention in every House district across the country during the Congressional recess.

High School and college students in the CU area, many of whom organized walkouts from their schools on March 14, are planning this town hall and have invited Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) and his Democratic challenger, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.

The event is open to the public and the venue will be filled on a first-come basis. Doors open at 6:30 PM. The event will be in the Robeson room of the Champaign Public Library.

***No signs or campaign literature will be permitted at the event***
