From Unit 4 and the City of Champaign:

Sympathies Extended to Families and Students Impacted by Student’s Tragic Death

Champaign Unit 4 School District and the City of Champaign extend their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and classmates of David Sankey, a READY student and former Central High School student who was fatally shot the evening of August 28, 2018.  Champaign Schools, the City, and the community are coming together to console and provide counseling and trauma support services to students who are grieving or impacted by this senseless loss of life. Students in need of support are encouraged to contact their school’s administrative offices or counselor.

Although there is no information to suggest a threat to the schools or school-related activities, and in an overabundance of caution, the Central-Centennial High School football game has been postponed to 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018.  The grand opening ribbon cutting of Tommy Stewart Field scheduled for Friday has also been postponed and will take place during halftime of Saturday’s game.

The police investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Champaign Police at 217-351-4545.  Information may also be shared anonymously via Crime Stoppers by phone (217-373-TIPS), online (www.373tips.com), or the P3 Tips mobile app.
