The C-U chapter of Human Library is looking for volunteers to share their experiences as a “book” at future events. What does this mean? From the organization:
Volunteer books are individuals from all walks of life who have experienced discrimination or marginalization based upon race, religion, sexual preference, class, gender identity, sex, age, lifestyle choices, disability and other aspects of their life and who want to share their experiences to promote knowledge and challenge stigma surrounding their identity. The Human Library provides the opportunity for the community to share and understand diverse experiences.
The Human Library is an international movement that debuted locally at Pygmalion in 2016, and will appear at Pygmalion again on September 27th at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. At these events, attendees or “readers” will “check out” the volunteer books. Then that reader has the opportunity to listen to, converse with, and learn from that volunteer.
If you feel like you have a story to share, you can fill out this form. The organization will contact you with the next steps.
