The Fowler Farm Project began in 2014 when Edison Middle School teacher Julie Anders applied for a CUSF grant to establish a “living lab” at Fowler Farm in west Champaign. It continues to be used by both Unit 4 and District 116 students, and received the “Golden Beet” award from the Illinois Stewardship Alliance earlier this year. From CUSF:
“This outdoor classroom, funded by a grant from CUSF features a “pizza garden”, chickens, solar powered drip irrigation and composting stations. Students have participated in building the farm activities that are fostering scientists, agriculturalists, and citizens of our global society.”
The open house will be on September 20th from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the Hendrick House food truck.
Directions to Fowler Farm: Take US 150 west to Rising Road, then go south 1/2 mile, past the railroad tracks to Fowler Farm on the left.
