Museum of the Grand Prairie typically closes during the months of January and February, with spring hours beginning on March 1st. This time around, they’ve decided to open their doors Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Good news if you’re looking to get out and do something as we get to the “why is winter so long” part of the season.
An interesting upcoming event to check out on one of those newly opened days is the Civil Rights in Champaign County panel discussion coming up February 10th at 2 p.m. All year the museum has been featuring the year 1968 through exhibits and events, and this fits into that series. From the event page:
1968 was a flashpoint in the fight for Civil Rights in both Champaign County and throughout the United States. With the assassination of many leaders of the movement taking place in the 1960s, including Martin Luther King Jr. in April of 1968, the year was absolutely crucial in the fight for equality at home and around the nation. Join us for an engaging panel discussion on local civil rights-related issues featuring Candy Foster, Izona Burgess, and Stan West, prominent community members present at the time.
