The Champaign County Forest Preserve District has some upcoming events that will give you some wilderness survival skills. Perhaps it’s been a while since your boy/girl scout days and you’d like to brush up, or you’d like to get the kids off their screens and out into nature while on spring break.
First, learn how to build a survival shelter to keep you safe and dry should you find yourself lost in the woods. This is happening March 21st from 2 to 4 p.m. It’s free and open to adults and families. Register here.
Then, come on back the next day and learn how to make a fire by friction. No matches or lighters here! You’ll get to use flint and steel and a bow drill to get a fire going. This is also from 2 to 4 p.m., free, and open to adults and families. Register here.
