Eastern Illinois Foodbank is hosting Operation Orange, a 12 hour food repacking event at their warehouse. Volunteers will be repacking bulk food donations into smaller packages for distribution throughout the 18 counties that EIF services. From the press release:
The event is part of Hunger Action Month, a national hunger awareness campaign by Feeding America, the nation’s network of foodbanks of which EIF is a member. Volunteers will be given orange “Hunger Avenger” t-shirts and food will be provided by area sponsors for each shift. A Kids’ Zone will also be featured for volunteers between the ages of five and 13 and their families.
Volunteer shifts have all been filled at this point, but you can still donate to the cause. If that’s your jam, head over the the Operation Orange event site to give online. If you’re looking for other volunteer opportunities with EIF, you can find that here.
