The Wesley Food Pantry and the Wesley Student Center are hosting a block party and Smash Out Hunger event Friday, September 13, from 5-7:30 p.m., at the Wesley Foundation on the University of Illinois campus.
September is Hunger Action Month and people are invited to get involved in the fight against hunger by smashing a donated car with a sledgehammer. Take three swings for a donation of $5, or purchase a Smash Pass for $20 and enjoy unlimited swings at the car. All proceeds from this and a dunk tank will go to the Wesley Food Pantry, which serves between 17,000-18,000 people from Champaign County each year.
The block party will also offer a variety of food trucks (Just Bee Acai, La Paloma, & Mama Duke’s), games (such as Human Whack a Mole and Giant Jenga), music, student giveaways, kids activities, and more.
