Online registration for this Illinois EPA sponsored event opens September 23rd at 8 a.m., and will remain open until all of the 15 minute slots are filled. The actual collection date for Champaign County is October 26th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marketplace Mall.

The HHW event is open to all Illinois residents; however, residents must register for an appointment to attend the event. Beginning on Monday, September 23, 2019, residents can reserve one of the available 15-minute time slots between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Immediately upon reserving a time, a confirmation e-mail and/or text message will be sent. Registered households will also receive a postcard in the U.S. mail five to seven days prior to the event which serves as their “ticket” into the event. Details on the event collection location in Champaign can be found at the registration website.
Residents participating in the event are encouraged to bring chemical cleaners, oil-based paints, paint thinner, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, kerosene, insecticides, pesticides, old or outdated pharmaceuticals, lead-acid batteries, and similar hazardous household products. Fluorescent and other high-intensity discharge lamps may also be brought to the collection. ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED include latex-based paints, explosives, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals and business waste.
