Aja Capel, an exceptional teen from Urbana who started high school at age 12, has already launched her own organization, See Me in STEM. Her mission is to empower minority youth, particularly girls, to “see themselves in STEM” through classes, camps, and other events.
Her interest in STEM began at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum, then she took her interests to 4-H where mentors Alvarez Dixon and Keith Jacobs have helped her along the way.
Capel’s organization was featured on NBC News Learn, a division of NBC News. You can see her video here, and read more about it here. Also, check out her blog because wow, this girl has done some incredible things.
