Okay, so Smile Politely doesn’t typically do much coverage of middle school projects. But, this one seems a bit different. Max Libman, an eighth grader at Countryside School, has put together an evening presentation open to the community titled The Holocaust: Remembering the Past as We Stand Together for a Brighter Future. The program is Wednesday, January 22nd from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at Countryside.
Libman created a documentary featuring an interview with his great great grandmother Ann Gershuny, herself a survivor of the Holocaust, on her experiences and the loss of her family. The documentary will be shown along with a short film Libman wrote for Pens to Lens, inspired by Gershuny’s life.
A panel discussion with local leaders will follow, and there will be a gallery of Holocaust-inspired artwork and poetry from other Countryside students.
It’s a pretty cool thing to see a young person so invested in learning about about the past and how it can inform our actions now.
