A few weeks ago, both the Champaign Public and Urbana Free Libraries started offering curbside pickup for held items. In these COVID times, one thing I miss greatly is my weekly visit to the Champaign Public Library. The ability to pick up actual books has been important to me; I’m an avid reader and reading has been one way I take a little time for myself.
Yesterday I picked up some books from Champaign Public Library. If you haven’t already done library pick up, it’s super easy. Assuming you already have a library card, you’ll need to request items (books, DVDs, CDs, anything else the library is lending out). You’ll get an email once the items are available. Call to set up a pick up time.

Enter the library using the Randolph Street entrance. Place a sheet of paper with your name on the dash. A library employee will radio inside for your bag of items, and then place them either in your truck or on the backseat. The entire process took about three minutes, and that was only because there were a few cars in front of me.
My weekly ritual has changed some, but I’m so grateful to be able to take advantage of this local resource.
